The Muscle Run

Muscle Run Results

The Muscle Run is a race bringing two branches of fitness together; running and functional fitness.

Challenges are selected to attack different natural movement patterns of the body. Recreational fitness enthusiasts, professional athletes, and even those new to their fitness journey can participate.

The Muscle Run will take place alongside the Bangkok Throwdown, the first Licensed CrossFit event in Thailand’s history.

Participation

This event is for everyone! Preparing can be done by running, lifting weights, or continuing to attend your favorite fitness class. 

We offer comprehensive training classes and prep races in September and October at Training Ground Gym, our official race prep partner. 

Registration is THB 1,500 for individuals and THB 2,700 for teams of 2All athletes receive a race kit which includes:

  • Teenager, 19 below

  • Top 3 finishers from each category receive a medal

Event details & format

Individuals

Athletes must complete a course made up of 6 circuits. Each circuit is made up of 2 segments; a 900m run, followed by a functional fitness workout station. 

Teams

Teams must complete a course made up of 6 circuits. Each circuit is made up of 2 segments; a 900m run, followed by a functional fitness workout station. 

Each 900m run is performed by one (1) person only. Then BOTH teammates move to a station where they SHARE the workload (i.e. only 1 person works at a time). There is no minimum workload for each person. 

The Six Stations

Athletes “cycle” on an air bike from Assault Systems for a set distance.

Athletes begin with the monitor clear and calories at 0. You may adjust the seat to your preferred height. Continue until the calories are complete before getting off the bike.

Individuals:

  • Male 40 calories
  • Female 30 calories

Teams – Work can be shared anyhow, 1 person working at a time:

  • FF will accumulate 30 calories
  • MM will accumulate 40 calories
  • MF will accumulate 40 calories

Athletes “push” on an East West Track Mill set at maximum resistance. This machine mimics a sled push of about 60kg.

The resistance will be pre-set and can not be adjusted. The monitor must be cleared to 0 meters prior to start. ‘Push’ until you’ve accumulated the allotted distance before getting off.

Individuals:

  • Male 12 calories
  • Female 8 calories

Teams – Work can be shared anyhow, 1 person working at a time:

  • FF will accumulate 8 calories
  • MM will accumulate 12 calories
  • MF will accumulate 12 calories

Athletes throw a medicine ball to a target, starting in a squat position with the hip crease clearly below the knee/parallel. A rep is counted when the ball hits the target.

Athletes must pick up the medicine ball from the ground (below the knees) on the first rep. The first rep can begin from a standing position, or you may ‘squat clean’ the first rep. You may not receive the ball off the ‘bounce’ going into the next rep.

Individuals:

  • Male 60 reps, 14 lbs wall ball to 10’ target
  • Female 60 reps, 10 lbs wall ball to 9’ target

Teams – Work can be shared anyhow, 1 person working at a time:

  • FF 60 reps combined, 10 lbs wall ball to 9’ target
  • MM 60 reps combined, 14 lbs wall ball to 10’ target
  • MF 60 reps combined
    • Male 14 lbs wall ball to 10’ target
    • Female 10 lbs wall ball to 9’ target

Athletes perform sit-ups while sitting on a KEWB curved mat while both feet “pinch” a sandbag. Your feet must be secure on the sandbag or floor at all times.

Athletes start with head and shoulders (3 points) touching the floor and then perform a sit-up. A rep is credited when you pull yourself up and touch the toes of your shoes.

Individuals:

  • Male 60 reps
  • Female 60 reps

Teams – Work can be shared anyhow, 1 person working at a time:

  • FF 60 reps combined
  • MM 60 reps combined
  • MF 60 reps combined

Athlete carry a pair of sandbells over a distance of 240 m

Individuals:

  • Male 20 kg sandbell x 2
  • Female 15 kg sandbell x 2

Teams – both persons walk together through course:

  • FF share 15 kg sandbell x 2, work can be shared anyhow, 1 person working at a time
  • MM share 20 kg sandbell x 2, work can be shared anyhow, 1 person working at a time
  • M carries 20 kg sandbell x 2 and F carries 15 kg sandbell x 2, both working at the same time

Athletes pull a rope attached to a weighted load over a set distance.

Start behind the ‘Stand Line’ and pull the sandbag across the floor until it crosses the ‘Pull Line’. Each length is 10 meters. Continue until you’ve accumulated the allotted distance.

Individual:

  • Men 60 kg, Distance 120 m
  • Women 30 kg, Distance 120 m

Teams – Work can be shared anyhow, 1 person working at a time:

  • FF 30 kg, Distance 120 m
  • MM 60 kg, Distance 120 m
  • MF 60 kg, Distance 120 m

REGISTRATION, DIVISIONS and START TIMES

Registration Deadline is Sunday, 15 November 2023 (Thai time) for Age Divisions and Gym Reservations.

Start times (heats released every 15 minutes):

  • 0900-1030: Featured/Gym reservations
  • 1030-onwards:
    • Teens and 60+
    • 20s and 50s
    • 30s and 40s
    • Teams (MM, FF, MF)

Start Times will be assigned by 16 November 2023 and athletes will be notified by email.

Gyms can reserve start times from 0900 and 1030 for their community! Featured Heats will be grouped and decided by the Competition Committee.
