The Muscle Run

The Muscle Run is a race bringing two branches of fitness together; running and functional fitness.

Challenges are selected to attack different natural movement patterns of the body. Recreational fitness enthusiasts, professional athletes, and even those new to their fitness journey can participate.

The Muscle Run will take place alongside the Bangkok Throwdown, the first Licensed CrossFit event in Thailand’s history.

Participation

This event is for everyone! Preparing can be done by running, lifting weights, or continuing to attend your favorite fitness class. 

We offer comprehensive training classes and prep races in September and October at Training Ground Gym, our official race prep partner. 

Registration is THB 1,500 for individuals and THB 2,700 for teams of 2All athletes receive a race kit which includes:

  • Top 3 finishers from each category receive a medal

Event details & format

Athletes run a course made up of 6 segments. Each segment is a ½ mile (900m) run, followed by a functional fitness workout station. 

The cutoff time for finishing all segments is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The Six Stations

Athletes “cycle” on an air bike from Assault Systems for a set distance. 

  • Men 1.2 miles (1.9 km)
  • Women 1.0 miles (1.6 km)

Athletes run on an East West Track Mill set at maximum resistance.

  • Men 400m
  • Women 300m

Athletes throw a weighted medicine ball to a target, starting in a squat position with knees clearly below the hip crease. A rep is counted when the athlete received the ball and returns to the squat position.

  • Men 70 reps, 14 lbs wall ball to 10’ target
  • Women 70 reps, 10 lbs wall ball 9’ target

Athletes pull a rope attached to a weighted load over a distance of 100 m

  • Men 50 kg
  • Women 25 kg 
  • Distance 100 m

Athletes perform sit-ups while sitting on a KEWB curved mat.

Athletes start with shoulders touching the floor and then perform a sit-up. A full rep is counted when the athlete touches a marker between their feet and returns to the lying position.

  • 60 reps (women & men)

Athlete carry a pair of kettlebells over a distance of 120 m

  • Men 45 lbs (20 kg) kettlebells x 2
  • Women 30 lbs (13.5 kg) kettlebells x 2

Running course

The 1 mile (900m) course starts inside the indoor arena and takes athletes outside to the beautiful Chulalongkorn University campus.

The course loops around the CU Football Stadium, past the second stadium and ends back inside the indoor arena. A water station is available on the course, just 100m before the end of the run.

Bangkok Throwdown Finals

A sanctioned CrossFit event, this is our annual finale.
